ON THE FLOWERS OF EVIL.
By Nathaniel Provencio
Allot of fans and people in general have asked me some very interesting questions about this album. I feel that I should answer these questions because so many of you have made this album an overwhelming success. I hope the readers of these statements about the Flowers of Evil find them interesting.
IS THERE ANY PARTICULAR REASON WHY THIS ALBUM IS DARKER THAN ALL THE OTHER ONES?
Yes. Most if not all of our past albums are about love, and the journey two people make together when they choose one another. At first, each person can do no wrong. The world is seen in beautiful colors. This was the theory behind Forward moments. Not only was it a collection of our favorites songs from previous collections. The songs exemplified the theory of how two people feel when they are in love. The next album X-cuse represented a more mature understanding of love, when emotions play a more prevalent role. People start to see the tiny flaws in one another. People start to evaluate there role in the relationship. Flowers of Evil represents the underbelly of love, when love turns into hate at the drop of the hat. It represents the plummit of two people, the knowing that years were wasted in vain. But, it also represents the emersion from fallen love and the hope that no matter how hard it gets, there is still room for survival.
WHY DO YOU THINK THE SONG FAILURE (THE STORY OF MY LIFE) HAS TAKEN OF SO WELL?
I think the main reason for that song's success is the brutal honesty of it. I have always tried to write personal songs. Writing personal songs have always been my therapy through years of crazy emotions. One of the best things about being a human is that we all share equal emotions one time or another in our life. If someone hears something that is personal to them and I helped them in some way, then it makes it all worth it. When we were making this album we all thought Golden Anniversary would be the big song, but we knew after we recorded it there was something special about that song.
IS THE FLOWERS OF EVIL THE BEST ALBUM PRO-T76 HAS RECORDED?
It is by far the toughest album to make. After X-cuse was recorded, I thought that I could never write any songs that were as good as the songs on X-cuse. It took me about four months to feel inspired to write a song. But, after our U.S. tour I just picked up a guitar and started pouring out this little songs about heartbreak and self loathing. Philip had left us and finding a replacement also made the album difficult. So not only were we learning new songs, we were forming a new band, so it was difficult. I'm not sure if this album is my favorite because all of them are very personal. The big three albums are more like a trilogy, so you can't just listen to one and get the whole story.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS ALBUM BEING THE LAST?
I would be lying if I didn't say that I feel sad. Pro-t76 has been a huge portion of my life. But, god... it has been the best part of my life, making music, playing shows, seeing the country, meeting great people, God...who could ask for more.
